Concept & Performance

Interdisciplinary research has become a major trend in modern higher education and technological development. As traditional disciplinary boundaries continue to evolve, teaching and research increasingly emphasize interdisciplinary integration. By combining expertise from different academic fields, universities are able to foster innovative research and diverse learning opportunities.

NCUT actively promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching by integrating the academic strengths and research resources of its colleges. Through interdisciplinary collaboration platforms, the university encourages faculty members and students to transcend disciplinary boundaries, develop innovative research applications, and enhance students’ competitiveness in the global workforce.

1. Interdisciplinary Research and Academic Collaboration

Interdisciplinary research not only expands faculty members’ research perspectives but also strengthens collaboration among experts from different academic disciplines. Through interdisciplinary integration, researchers can utilize diverse methodologies and resources to produce impactful research outcomes and increase opportunities for international collaboration.

NCUT has also actively engaged in international academic cooperation. Faculty members have collaborated with researchers from countries such as Canada, India, and Poland, publishing research in fields including materials science, nanotechnology, energy technology, and environmental science, demonstrating the global development of the university’s interdisciplinary research initiatives.

2. Cross-University Learning and Resource Sharing

To expand students’ access to learning resources and interdisciplinary opportunities, NCUT participates in the National University System of Taiwan (NUST), which consists of 15 member universities.

Since 2022, approximately 80,000 students within the system have been able to share nearly 11,000 courses offered by partner universities. Students are allowed to enroll in up to two cross-university courses per semester without paying additional credit fees.

This collaboration integrates teaching resources from comprehensive universities, universities of technology, normal universities, and sports universities, enabling greater academic resource sharing and fostering interdisciplinary learning across institutions.

3. University Social Responsibility (USR) and Interdisciplinary Practice

NCUT actively promotes University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives by integrating expertise from multiple colleges to address local and societal needs.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration among the College of Engineering, College of Management, and College of Humanities and Creativity, faculty members and students participate in community engagement and regional development projects. These initiatives support local industry development and social innovation, demonstrating the university’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development.

4. Advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

NCUT integrates the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its teaching and research activities in order to respond to global sustainability challenges.

The university offers hundreds of courses related to sustainability each year and promotes interdisciplinary research projects addressing sustainable development issues. Through interdisciplinary education and research, NCUT is committed to cultivating talents who possess sustainability awareness and a global perspective.

5. Future Outlook for Interdisciplinary Development

Looking ahead, NCUT will continue to strengthen interdisciplinary teaching and research by integrating domestic and international academic resources and industry collaboration platforms. The university will further expand cross-institutional cooperation and global academic exchange while fostering a dynamic environment for interdisciplinary innovation.

Through interdisciplinary integration and resource sharing, NCUT aims to enhance its research capacity and educational quality, while cultivating professionals equipped with interdisciplinary competencies and global competitiveness.
